Britain’s first gay couple to father children through surrogacy have sparked heated debate over their plans to have have triplet daughters via a sex-selection process that is illegal in the UK.

Barrie and Tony Drewitt-Barlow want three girls to add to their four sons and a daughter. They plan to conceive the triplets through embryo sex selection, and will do so in the US, where the practice is legal.

The couple’s youngest children, six-year-old twins Jasper and Dallas, were conceived thanks to a batch of embryos, of which there are still ten remaining in a Californian fertility clinic.

The embryos were created using the couple’s sperm and the eggs of a Brazilian model. She was paid £50,000 by the couple for her eggs after they spotted her on a catwalk.

Barrie outlined the couple’s plan to pick the female embryos from those ten. They will then be implanted in the womb of a surrogate mother.

“This is baby trafficking, a skewing of the natural order,” said a spokeswoman for Christian Concern. “Children are a blessing and a gift, not objects that we select from a showroom.”

Lisa Ann Magerman, an obstetrics blogger and nurse, raised safety concerns. “Triplet pregnancies are very high-risk to begin with,” she said “Sex selection signals they care more about balanced numbers than four lives.”

But not all observers are against the practice of sex selection. In a report into the ethics of gender preference, Stephen Wilkinson, a professor of bioethics at Lancaster, said: “We didn't find any ethical arguments sufficient to justify a blanket ban on these people seeking sex selection.”

There is “too much testosterone” in the Drewitt-Barlow household, said Barrie, adding that he was not too old to be a father again. “I need to have another princess in my life â€" or two or three,” he told newspapers.

The Drewitt-Barlows, who live in Essex,  first became fathers in 1999. Each of them fertilised an egg from the same woman, resulting in the birth, thanks to a surrogate mother, of Saffron and Aspen, half-siblings who are both now 17.

They were followed by Orlando, 13, and then Jasper and Dallas. Saffron told newspapers that her fathers are “way too old” for more children.

Metropolitan police to investigate sexual abuse claims at London clubs | Football

The Metropolitan police has launched an investigation into historical sexual abuse claims involving London football clubs, becoming the 21st force across the country to have begun similar inquiries into teams in their areas.

Britain’s largest police force said specialist officers would look into allegations of “non-recent” crimes, but refused to say which clubs it was investigating.

“We take all the allegations we receive very seriously and they will be dealt with sensitively,” said DCS Ivan Balhatchet of the Met’s sexual offences, exploitation and child abuse command. “Anyone who has been a victim of sexual abuse, whatever the circumstances, or has any relevant information should contact their local police or the NSPCC.”

Gary Johnson, the former player who was paid £50,000 by Chelsea not to go public with allegations that he was abused by their former chief scout Eddie Heath, has said that a personal apology from the club’s board, delivered in person on Wednesday, was “too little, too late”.

Johnson was a member of Chelsea’s first team from 1978 to 1981 after joining the club as an 11-year-old in 1970. The 57-year-old spoke out recently to say he was groomed from the age of 13 by Heath, who was chief scout from 1968 to 1979 and is now dead. Chelsea’s insurers paid £50,000 in compensation, without liability, in return for a confidentiality clause.

Johnson told the BBC that the £50,000 he received was “not enough for the pain and suffering I’ve had”, adding: “It [the abuse] took away my childhood â€" I can never get that back.”

In Holyrood, Nicola Sturgeon resisted calls for the inquiry into historical child sexual abuse in Scotland to be widened to include football clubs, after the Scottish Labour leader, Kezia ­Dugdale, pressed her during first minister’s ­questions about revelations of abuse in Scottish clubs.

The first minister said: “My view is we should allow that inquiry to get on with its job and we should allow the police to get on with their job of investigating allegations of abuse in football.”

Earlier, a former chief ­executive of the Scottish Football Association called for a separate inquiry as the revel­ations across the UK continued to mount. Gordon Smith told BBC Radio’s Good Morning Scotland that an investigation into how clubs and national bodies had responded to allegations was needed.

“There should be an inquiry, an inquiry into anybody who knew anything about this sort of thing,” he said. “If this was happening at a club, what action did they take? We’re now finding out some of the cases down in England where the club tried to hush the situation, even paid a player money to not say anything about it.”

The SFA has said it is part of a task force set up to coordinate complaints and information relating to child sexual abuse within football and that it is passing on all information it receives to Police Scotland.

Meanwhile, the Scottish Premiership club Patrick Thistle have admitted firing one of their employees in 1992 over abuse claims. The club disclosed that a former physiotherapist, named as John Hart, who died in 1995, was dismissed after the allegations came to light more than 20 years ago.

In a statement, the club denied any cover-up, stating: “The current board and management knew nothing of this until an internal investigation uncovered it in the last few days. As a result, the club informed the SFA and Police Scotland.”

This follows revelations concerning a former youth coach for Celtic, Hibernian and Falkirk football clubs, who was on Wednesday charged with a child sex offence and has been remanded in custody.

Jim McCafferty, who worked in football across the central belt of Scotland and in Ireland from the 1980s, was arrested in Belfast on Tuesday after presenting himself at a police station. He was charged with engaging in sexual activity with a child aged 13-16 between December 2011 and December 2014.

Cherokee Nation Will Now Recognize Same-Sex Marriage

The Cherokee Nation will now recognize same-sex marriage, according to an opinion issued Friday by the tribe’s attorney general.

Todd Hembree, the tribe’s attorney general, wrote in his opinion:

The right to marry without the freedom to marry the person of one’s choice is no right at all. The history of perpetual partnerships and marriage among Cherokees supports the conclusion that Cherokee citizens have a fundamental right not only to choose a spouse but also, with mutual consent, to join together and form a household irrespective of sexual orientation.

The decision followed a request made by the tribe’s tax commissioner for an official opinion on the issue a few weeks ago.

“We were increasingly being contacted by departments in the Cherokee Nation on how to handle certain issues with same-sex marriage,” Chrissi Nimmo, assistant attorney general of the Cherokee Nation, told The Huffington Post on Friday.

Native American nations are governed by Congress, not the federal courts. So the 2015 Supreme Court decision to recognize gay marriage in all 50 states did not legally affect the Cherokee Nation, but Nimmo said the bulk of Friday’s decision was indeed informed by it.

Hembree’s decision was also influenced by historical Cherokee Nation sexuality narratives. He wrote in Friday’s decision:

Our oral history teaches us also that the Cherokee and Euro-American worldviews differed dramatically regarding appropriate gender roles, marriage, sexuality, and spiritual beliefs. Indeed, while the majority of Cherokees subscribed to the traditional gender roles, evidence suggests a tradition of homosexuality or alternative sexuality among a minority of Cherokees.

“It think it’s a really interesting part of the decision,” Nimmo told HuffPost. “Through historical research, we were able to identify research sources that indicate there was some type of historical recognition of homosexuality.”

Hembree’s opinion nullifies a law the tribe passed 12 years ago called the Cherokee Nation and Family Protection Act, which banned same-sex marriage among tribe members. 

Though same-sex marriage is still illegal in some Native American tribes, like the Navajo Nation, Nimmo believes most tribes don’t take a stance on it either way. 

“I think you will see a mixed reaction [to Friday’s decision] like you do in the American public at large,” Nimmo told HuffPost. “Without a doubt, there will be tribal members and officials who support this and are proud of this, and there will be others ... who don’t like it.”

The Cherokee Nation’s legal recognition of same-sex marriage will take effect immediately. Nimmo said Hembree’s decision is “binding and considered legally valid,” though it can be challenged by other Cherokee officials at any time.

“I don’t really know who would challenge it,” Nimmo added.

An astonishing number of people believe Pizzagate, the Facebook-fueled Clinton sex ring conspiracy story, could be true

Here’s a question I never thought I’d ask: Do you think Hillary Clinton is connected to a child sex ring being run out of a pizzeria in Washington, D.C.?

If you voted for Donald Trump, there’s a decent chance you think it’s true. Or, at least, you’re not sure, one way or another.

Nearly 50 percent of Trump voters think the Pizzagate theory is either true or could be true, according to a new poll released today from Public Policy Polling.

It’s yet another reminder that “fake news” â€" an admittedly lousy term used to describe a wide range of untrue things on the internet â€" has a depressingly receptive audience.

In this case, the non-story is a made-up tale about Clinton, her associates and an underage prostitute network. It started up this fall in dark corners of the internet, but quickly bubbled up through Facebook, which weaponized the meme with its sharing tools.

And it’s the same tale that prompted Edgar Welch, a 28-year-old North Carolina man, to drive to a Washington, D.C., pizza place on Sunday, armed with a semi-automatic assault rifle, so he could “shine some light” on the claims. He was arrested after firing the gun inside the restaurant.

Welch told the New York Times that he didn’t vote for Trump last month. But people who did were particularly likely to think that Pizzagate was true, or might be.

Public Policy Polling, which surveyed 1,224 registered voters this week, says that 14 percent of Trump voters believe Clinton is connected to the nonexistent child sex ring, while another 32 percent aren’t sure. Nationwide, those numbers are 9 percent and 19 percent, respectively.

Grain of salt? Sure: For starters, it’s possible that Welch’s story, which generated lots of attention earlier this week, helped seed the theory with poll respondents who might never have heard about it otherwise.

And more broadly, it’s a poll, so it’s going to have some noise in it. Which is the only plausible explanation for the fact that Public Policy Polling says that 5 percent of Clinton voters thought Pizzagate was true.

Or, in the words of Jim Williams, a Public Policy Polling analyst who worked on today’s survey: “You can ask anything to anyone, and you’re going to get 3 percent or 4 percent or 5 percent saying ‘yes.’”

It’s also true that crazy conspiracy theories about Hillary Clinton and her husband aren’t new, and have had a large national audience for decades. If you listened to talk radio during Bill Clinton’s presidency in the 1990s, you heard many tales about mysterious deaths, deals with drug cartels and more.

The difference now is that the internet, and Facebook in particular, makes this stuff so much easier to transmit, so quickly. This non-story didn’t exist a couple months ago, and now it has national traction. Imagine what we’re going to believe next.

Florida couple 'are caught in the act of having sex in front of passersby on a sidewalk'

An amorous Florida couple have been charged with indecent exposure after police say they were caught having sex in public.

The incident that landed the libidinous pair, identified as 26-year-old Ashley Wetzel and 50-year-old Henry Niblack, occurred just before 10:40pm Wednesday in the area of 3 Avenue North and Mirror Lake Drive North, not far from a St Petersburg park.

According to an arrest report, Niblack and Wetzel were seen having a sexual intercourse in front of people passing by on the sidewalk.

The report, first obtained by The Smoking Gun, offers graphic details of the encounter, describing how Niblack was allegedly observed 'throwing his hips back and forth, inserting his penis into Wetzel's vagina.'

The responding officer noted in his report that both Niblack and his partner had their pants around their ankles.

The pair were arrested at the scene and each was charged with a misdemeanor count of exposure of sexual organs.

Niblack, a construction worker from St Petersburg, was released from jail Thursday after posting $150 bond, while Wetzel remained in custody on $650 bond.

Both suspects have criminal records: Wetzel has a pending case against have stemming from theft charges and a past conviction on a charge of trespassing, while Niblack's rap sheet includes charges of domestic violence, possession of marijuana and violation of injunction.

Florida Couple Busted For Sex In Public

Police: Pair was "in view" of passersby on St. Pete street

DECEMBER 9--Instead of retiring to either of their respective residences, a couple opted to have sex "in view" of passersby on a Florida street, an indiscretion that resulted in the duo's arrest for public indecency.

According to court filings, a cop caught Ashley Wetzel, 26, and Henry Niblack, 50, in the act Wednesday evening near a St. Petersburg park. Officer Joshua Jordan reported that the duo was having sex “in view of patrons walking by on the sidewalk.”

Jordan reported that he “observed Niblack behind Wetzel, throwing his hips back and forth, inserting his penis into Wetzel’s vagina.” Jordan added that the suspects each had their pants at their ankles.

Pictured above, Wetzel and Niblack were arrested for exposure of sexual organs, a misdemeanor. Niblack was released from custody yesterday, while Wetzel, who has a pending theft case, remains locked up in lieu of a combined $650 bond.

Niblack lives in St. Petersburg and works for a construction company. Wetzel resides in Clearwater. Police do not allege that their public tryst was a commercial transaction. (1 page)

We asked sexual biotechnology researcher Nicole Prause, PhD, if what's available now really counts as a sex robot and what we can expect in the future.

Would it be fair to say that sex robots already exist?

Nicole Prause: Sure, at the most basic level, sex robots already exist. There are machines to "auto-extract" ejaculate both for fertility and pleasure purposes already. They are not responsive to human preference or feedback, but the mechanics already exist. Responsive characters already exist, tooâ€"they just have to limit your requests of them because they are not very flexible.

What are the most advanced sex robots we have right now?

NP: The most advanced robots in terms of their intelligence do not exist in sex. The most advanced development I have seen for emotional tasks is for automated therapy, such as for PTSD. Studies are being conducted showing that, while people do not ascribe actual human qualities (they do not believe the robot has come to life), they will disclose more emotional content to a robot therapist than to a human therapist. These advances are occurring in collaborations between research psychologists and computer scientists.

What do you think the most advanced sex robots will look like in 10 years, then?

NP: Sex robots in 10 years are likely to be increasingly able to detect sexual movements (e.g., being touched on the nipple and how hard), but so little is known about "typical" sexual interactionsâ€"how many people desire or respond to nipple stimulation and what is optimal pressureâ€"that it will be very difficult to develop accurate "off-the-shelf" robots. The advances are most likely to come with learning algorithms developed for other, non-sexual purposes. The necessity of advanced computing to integrate the information from the periphery (nipple, vulva, et cetera) and the stigma of working in this area suggest sexually-focused robots will not receive attention from the best scientists until sometime far after others have developed related capabilities. I am not optimistic we will see much in 10 years.

Do you see any potential uses for them beyond entertainment?

NP: People can remain aware of the robot as a robot and still have true emotional experiences themselves, and I do not see why sexual experiences would be different in this respect. Much like sex films, which adults overwhelmingly recognize as fantasy, I believe robots will be a useful tool for some people beyond entertainment alone.

What positive effects do you think they could have on our lives?

NP: Robots could be very useful in situations where partner access is not available. For example, therapy to overcome sexual abuse might feel safer to start with a well-controlled, programmed, non-judgemental partner. Those who have difficulty attracting partners, due to mental illness, different physical appearance, or simple disinterest, might choose to enjoy sexual activity with robots. Established romantic relationships could include a robot to increase their sexual breadth. Robots also might serve in a discharge capacityâ€"directing illegal sexual behaviors towards the robot instead of a human.

What negative effects could they have?

NP: The biggest likely negative effect is the technology backlash that always occurs in sexuality: people will be shamed for sexual behaviors with robots. They will be made to feel they are broken, maladjusted, or otherwise lesser. In other words, the most likely negative effects are from the social response to sex robots, not the robots themselves. They also might present a challenge for individuals with social anxiety, who otherwise might be motivated to improve their social interactions out of a desire to attract a sexual partner, have a family, and so on. Of course, any device could carry some basic risk of injury, but I trust those to be minimized, as safety will be in mind with development.

This is likely to mimic what we have seen with sex films: a tiny minority of people who view sex films report having problems with them, while society loses its collective shit with conservative panic about imagined problem. "Loses its collective shit" being a super-professional opinion.

If we want to get an idea of what sex robots could be like one day, do any sci-fi movies actually do a good job depicting them?

NP: No. Movies with sexbots always present them as far more advanced than I can imagine them being in 50 years, much less 10, in terms of emotional simulations. Repetitive sexual movements I expect to become much more realistic more rapidly than the interaction.

Would it be possible for people to one day fall in love with robots?

NP: As with sex films, there will be a tiny minority of people who fail to distinguish reality with robots. I hope we focus on this education rather than demonizing the technology.
